Hello!
Welcome and thank you for being here! I am a certified Texas teacher with over 20 years of experience in K-12 and post-secondary education. I am a TEA approved continuing education provider, and my passion is helping others achieve their dreams by way of advancing literacy and teacher preparation.
I am a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and earned my Masters of Education in Advanced Literacy from Concordia University.
My work with young learners focuses on reading and reading disabilities. I am a certified reading specialist and structured literacy interventionist at the K-8 level, both in my work as a classroom teacher and as a private reading tutor. Over the years, I have assisted parents in special education advocacy and worked as a consultant to school districts providing supplemental services including behavior intervention and professional development. My certifications include early childhood through grade 8 generalist, English as a Second Language, and EC-12 special education.
I have been fortunate in my career to have the opportunity to assist many adults in becoming a certified teacher. In my work in educator preparation I have prepared hundreds of teachers for certification exams including the TExES exams Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR), Science of Teaching Reading, Special Education, EC-6 Core Subjects and ESL exams. I teach classes on these content areas and am dedicated to helping teachers achieve their goals to become fully certified Texas educators. Agencies I have worked for include Texas A&M Kingsville, Education Service Centers Region 13 and 14, Austin Community College, and Alamo Colleges.
I hope that I can be of service to you!
Sincerely,
Melissa
